FAQs

Where to find us?

Our clinic address is Suite 7, Level 1, 860 Doncaster Rd, Doncaster East, VIC 3109

There are two entrances to the building, via Doncaster Rd or Wetherby Rd. The car park can be accessed via Wetherby Rd.

There is some street parking available within a short walking distance on Acacia St, Elizabeth St, Jackson Court, Sharon St, Murphy Rd, and Daphne St.

Do I need a referral?

Yes. To claim Medicare rebates, you need a valid referral from your optometrist, GP or Specialist. Generally, a referral will last for 12 months if obtained from an optometrist or GP; and 3 months if obtained from a Specialist. Our staff will advise you if you need to obtain a new one for your follow-up care.

How do I make an appointment?

Please call our clinic on 03 8802 8600 to make an appointment or fill in the appointment request form. Our team will contact you as soon as possible to confirm your appointment

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

  • Referral letter
  • Your current Medicare, DVA, Private Health Card, Pension and Concession Card
  • Glasses, both reading and distance
  • Current list of medications and Medical History Summary

How long will the appointment take?

Please allow 1-2 hours for your appointment as, depending on your eye condition, there may be a need to perform additional diagnostic tests or procedures before you are seen by the ophthalmologists.

Occasionally, emergencies might come up. When this occurs, we ask for your understanding as this may cause delays. However, we will endeavour to notify you as early as possible (via sms/phone) to try and avoid long waiting times.

Can I drive after my appointment?

As you may need to have dilating drops which can blur your vision, we recommend that you do not drive after your appointment.

What will happen during the appointment?

Once arrived, please present at our reception desk, and advise of your arrival. For new patients, we will require you to fill in a patient registration form at your initial visit. For existing patients, we do ask that you kindly inform us of any changes to your personal details such as a change of address, contact number and Medicare details.

You will first be seen by our orthoptists for preliminary testings and administering eye drops. This may include taking patient medical history, vision testing, checking eye pressure and perform other ophthalmic tests such as OCT, Visual Fields, A-scans, Corneal Topography and Retinal Photography.

You may be required to have your eyes dilated for a comprehensive eye examination.

You will then see the ophthalmologist for further assessments and discussion of treatment plans

What will my consultation cost?

Cataract & Eye Surgery Centre is a privately run clinic. Fees are dependent on the doctor you see and please note that you may also be charged for any additional tests or procedures performed on the day. There are Medicare rebates for most of the tests and there are some discounts available for pensioners and health care cardholders.

Please note that common OCT scans for retina and glaucoma review currently do not attract any medicare rebates.

How can I pay for my account?

Effective 1st July there will be an increase to our fees.
Payment can be made by Cash, EFTPOS, Visa, and MasterCard.
We ask that you please settle your account on the day of consultation.

How can I claim Medicare Rebate?

We can process most Medicare claims electronically. You should receive the rebate back in your nominated bank account with Medicare within a few hours.

What happens if I cannot make it to the appointment?

Please give us at least 24-hour notice if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment so that we can offer your appointment time to patients on our waiting list.
